Of what? And why there is no day one? What happened with the rest of the days? You may ask. So let me guide you through.
I’m 100 days in on my travel project to get from Hungary to Patagonia without a commercial flight. I even gave it a name, Destination: Journey aka Project Patagonia. Sounds ridiculous, ha? I don’t care. It’s a cliche, but it highlights that the journey is what actually matters, not the destination. Like in life. Like you are not waiting for when you’ll get buried, right? So you should better get a nice life and focus on the journey. Not that I want to compare Patagonia with being dead lol. Yeah, sorry for that. In fact, I want to get down to Patagonia, but with time and I know until there an awesome journey awaits me. Or not. Time will tell. But the journey itself should be embraced fully with its own ups and downs. Even when things don’t play out as it is wished way too often.
So right now, I’m sitting here in a French crepes place in Marigot, St. Martin, next to the anchorage of my skipper’s boat with a toothache that I hope will pass soon, and I guess it’s time for some reflection. At least writing this distracts me from the pain. And don’t you worry child, I already have an appointment with the local dentist for tomorrow.
In the past 100 days, I have traveled approx 10.000 kms (it’s just a rough guess for now, at one point, when I think it’s time I’ll give an accurate assessment) so far, 3.000kms on land and 7.000kms (approx 4.000 nautical miles) on sea on a sailing boat. Arrived to St. Martin’s anchorage located on the Caribbeans a week ago, after a 33 day long sailing trip from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria in Spain.
I have traveled to Gran Canaria via sailing as well from La Linea, that took us 13 days spending Christmas and the new year on sea, so from the first 100 days I have spent the majority of my time living and breathing on boats.
In fact, it’s funny because I have never sailed or solo-traveled before so this experience already came with some learnings and I hope it will come with more, that I will aim to share in this blog in the next posts.
